02.26Green Tea Donuts (Taiwan)
I just found these menus from Mister Donut and Dunkin’ Donuts lying around from my trip to Taiwan last year and I must say, I definitely would not mind a chocolate mochi ring right now. One of the first things that I noticed putting the two side-by-side was that the menu designs both use a similar orange + white color scheme and a playful DIY like Chinese font. Now that doesn’t seem like a good way to differentiate yourself from your biggest competitor does it? After doing a little “research” on Mister Donut I learned a few things that went against my preconceptions.
- Mister Donut was founded in North America (I assumed it was based out of Japan)
- There is an entire blog on just DONUTS
- There are still 11 Mister Donuts left in the United States
- It is owned by Allied-Lyons, the parent company of Dunkin’ Donuts
Here’s the big one…
To me the last one is a surprise just because the two companies seem to be direct competitors in Taipei. Below is an image I pulled off of Mister Donut’s website. I saw these but never was desperate enough to try them. Green Tea Donuts.
